How to install phpLD

In my opinion Phpld is one of the best scripts available for a web directory.

I have seen lots of people posting on webmaster forums looking for someone to setup phpld or trying to find help when an installation has gone wrong, therefore, I decided I would write this step-by-step guide on how to install PHPLD.

What you will need?

You will need to go to PHPLD and download the latest version of the script, there is currantly a $25 fee for the script if you provide a sidewide link back to phpld or a $75 fee if you don't want to link back.

Download the version of the script you use and follow the step-by-step guide here, we have used phpld 3.2 for this guide.

Next, you will need an FTP program we recommend Filezilla as this a free program and the one we will use in this guide.

Getting started:

Step 1) Firstly you need to download phpld, we recommend that you unzip the files to a folder on your desktop.

Start Filezilla, you should see the program shown below.




In section A enter the URL of your current website

In section B enter your cpanel username

In section C enter your cpanel password

Then click on quickconnect you can leave the port blank

Step 2) Next, you need to double click on the www folder, now you need to upload all the phpLD files that you have unzipped in your desktop folder to the WWW folder.

Step 3) Now change permissions on the following file and four folders to 777 (In version 3.2 you will need to rename include/config.php.new to include/config.php

- include/config.php
- temp/
- temp/adodb
- temp/cache
- temp/templates

The best way of doing this is by logging in to your web site control panel www.yourdomain.com/cpanel once logged in click on File Manager; locate the above files in the WWW folder the click on Change Permission. (777)

Step 4) Installing your database, login to your cpanel you will then see the following screen, select mysql databases.



Now you will see the following screen




In the new database box type in a name for your database. we have used the name "Test" for our database, once you have typed a name click on "Create Database"

You have now created a database and you will see the following.

Now click on "Go Back".

Now we need to create a user, in the currant user box type in a user name and password.

Again I have used test as our user name, you can use any name you want.

Now click on create user, your database is now setup and should look like the following image.

Click on "Go Back" and you should see the following.

The last step of creating the database is to add the user to the database, click on "Add User To Database" see image below.



Now open your web browser and type in your domain name and add /install/ at the end, like this www.your-domain-name.com/install/.

The installation should start; you will see the following screen.

Pick the language this you want to use and click next, the script will then check that you have the correct hosting requirements.

Insert your db server name, database name, username and password that you used earlier and click next.

Now tick all the boxes and then click next.

Now setup a user name, password and email address for your admin panel.

Insert your db server name, database name, username and password that you used earlier and click next.

Redirect to your directory page and your directory should now be up and running.
